KEADAAN SOSIAL EKONOMI DAN STRATEGI PENGGUNAAN PENDAPATAN DI DAERAH TUJUAN DAN ASAL MIGRAN TUKANG BECAK DI PERUMNAS SAWOJAJAR KOTA MALANG

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to reveal the economic and social condition of migrant becak driver, their motivation and factors that interest them to migrate, and the use of their income, either in their hometown or in the city. The methods used for the data collection are the census, questionnaires, and interview. The population of this research is 94 becak drivers who live in Perumnas Sawojajar. The results of the research show that: (1) the migrant becak drivers are 30 – 40 years old, they graduate from elementary school, they have been working up to 20 years, they have the income about 200,000 – 300,000 rupiahs per month, and they don’t have any farm in their hometown; (2) their motivation to migrate is the scarcity of vacancy in their hometown, and the decision to migrate is done by themselves. On the other hand, the city is more interesting because the wage is higher and there are some other opportunities for employment, which can be near to their homes; (3) the income of those migrant becak drivers is less than 500,000 rupiahs per month, while the living cost in the city is more than 300,000 rupiahs per month. The amount of the money which can be brought home is less than 300,000 rupiahs per month, therefore the use of the money is just to fulfill their daily needs.
