KAJIAN POTENSI WILAYAH DAN KARAKTERISTIK LOKAL KAWASAN TERTINGGAL DI KECAMATAN JABUNG

Abstract: This research aims at: 1, identifying, studying, and mapping regional potentials of SWP (Satuan Wilayah Pengembangan/Development Area Unit) IV Kecamatan Jabung, Malang; 2. identifying and studying local characteristics of people in Kecamatan Jabung which can enhance the competitive strength og people from other left areas having about the same characterictics in Malang District; and 3. analysing factors making Kecamatan Jabung area as left area. The approaches used were field observation and in depth interview in the left areas in Malang District. To determine the villages to be the area of reserach, this research used scoring technique. This research has found out that the potentials of Ngadirejo and Argosari villages are relatively marginal. Still, Argosari village is potential to be developed as a centre for sugarcane plantation; while Ngadirejo village as a centre for developing durian and coffe plantation. The determining factors of these two villages which make them classified as left areas are their: a) hilly geographic sites, b)marginal natural resource, c) relatively low human resource, and d) limited fund from the government’s policy in development programmes.
