THE IMPACT OF REMITTANCE ON CHANGES IN SOCIAL CONDITIONS THE HOUSEHOLD WORKERS OF THE AREA OF ORIGIN

Abstract: The people of District Tulungagung until 1980 mostly are poor communities. However, around the year 2000 thanks to the remittances of international migration to that area occurred beside changes the economic life became more and more good which is be a center of economic activities of diverse communities, there are also changes in the social conditions of the household workers of the area of origin. The purposes of this study are to discover and reveal changes in the social conditions of household workers of the area of origin. This study is explanatory research, with survey methods. Sample areas are determined by purposive that is districts or village which have the largest number of household workers. 1 sample are workers were simple randomly selected (simple random sampling). The analysis data is descriptive and analysis statistical of Partial Least Square (PLS).

The findings research showed that remittances have a significant effect on the change in social conditions (change of status and role of women in the study area) there is a change of status and role of women in the household means that almost no differences in women and men in improving household welfare. The shift of social stratification appeared in sight on change the social class of household workers of the area of origin in terms of increased wealth, livelihoods outside agriculture, home building physical shape, and the style of dress is increasing. The existence of structure changes and housekeeping functions, appear in the position of responsibility in the household was done or replaced by another member of the household who is left by her husband or wife to working abroad. Changes in the pattern and system of division labor if a migrant worker in the household is the father (head of household) or mother (wife).
