PENINGKATAN PEMAHAMAN GEOGRAFI DENGAN STRATEGI PEMBELAJARAN BERBASIS MASALAH DALAM KERANGKA KURIKULUM BERBASIS KOMPETENSI (KBK) DI KELAS X SMAN 1 BATU

Abstract: This classroom action research (CAR) was aimed to promote students’ activeness in teaching-learning activities and their understanding of geographic concepts’ The research,’ taking the 10th graders of SMAN 1 Batu as subjects, was carried out in the light of .competence- based curriculum, The teaching and learning materials for this CAR were centered around the history of the formation of the earth.  This three-cycled CAR, which employed problem – based teaching and learning, came to a finding that problem – based  approach to the teaching and learning of geography helps teacher  engage their students in the learning activities assist the students understand geographic concepts,  particularly, those related to the  formation of the earth and solar system.

Key words: problem-based learning, geographic understanding, competence based curriculum.
